How we check specs

Where our numbers come from, how we label them, and what we do when sources disagree.

Updated 27 October 2026. Desk research, written by Dirty Bikes.

Sources we use

  1. Australian manufacturer or authorised distributor pages for the exact model year and variant. These are our primary source for specifications.
  2. A dated Australian retailer page for that retailer's price, offer and link, once we have verified it.
  3. Overseas manufacturer pages only to fill a gap, always marked as another market. A bike that relies on them is flagged as not verified for Australia.
  4. Independent media for attributed observations only, never as the source of a technical specification.

Every bike page lists its sources and the date each was checked.

How we show numbers

When sources disagree

We keep both values in our research notes, prefer the exact Australian variant source, and flag the disagreement on the bike page.

Reviews and labels

Every bike page today is desk research: we read the published specifications; we did not ride the bike. If we publish a hands-on review, it will say who rode the bike, where, for how long, and whether the bike was loaned.

Order and rankings

Bikes are listed alphabetically by default. You can sort by price or seat height. We don't use a hidden commercial ranking and we don't name a best bike without a published method.

Corrections

If a source changes or you spot an error, tell us. We check the primary source, mark the field uncertain or remove it, and log the change.
